Motorcycle Accident pt. 1

We had made a trip out to Rexburg to drop Kass off for school.  While the girls were helping Kass get her room all set-up, the boys were out on an 8 hour motorcycle ride in the mountains.  My mom got a phone call from my dad saying that we needed to pick them up a little earlier than expected because Rob had hurt his knee.
We were on our way searching for them and my dad calls to give directions and says there is a search and rescue trailer leading up to the trail.  I didn't think anything of it.  We met my dad at the end of the road, and he had broke the news to us that Rob had broken his leg.

Rob had gone around the corner of the trail, his back end slid out, he overcorrected pinned his leg in between the handlebars and the gas tank.  At the same time his bike slid down 15 ft. and he had gone over the handlebars.
I am grateful for the eagle scouts that were there, they did a fine job stabilizing his leg.  In the meantime, my dad had called 911.  They sent search and rescue out on motorcycles (no cars or quads would fit) and a group of 10 hiked in 3 miles with a stretcher and hiked him back out on a stretcher.  The accident happened around 11:30am  search and rescue got there two hours later, he was loaded on the stretcher.  About halfway EMT's met up with him half way to give him some meds.
We met him at around 4:30pm at the end of the trail.
Here is the ambulance bringing Rob out.  I was shortly behind him on a quad, I was a little pale seeing Rob in pain.

The doctors and nurses were wonderful to us and served us to the max.  As you can see in the picture below his leg goes to the left.

I was just as sick as he was. (I do not do well with hospitals) They ended up putting him in a splint to stabilize his leg for the long and dreaded 14 hour drive home.  There ended up being a thrift store across the street from the hospital with a huge bin of crutches, we donated a small amount of money.

Surgery pt. 1-- Rob had surgery this last week, they put an external rod to stretch his leg back out to it's original length and hopefully the swelling can go down so he will have the surgery next week.
Rob's first request out of surgery was food.  He hadn't eaten anything for 36 hours.  The nurse wanted to make sure he could handle eating food, so they gave him ice chips first.  After that he had ice cream, jello and italian ice.  In the middle of the night the nurse checked on him again, he was doing fine and he ordered a turkey sandwich.  The next morning he had french toast and a breakfast burrito.  He really enjoyed the food part, the pain not so much.
We are grateful for the Hedges for letting us stay at their house in Idaho and taking care of Rob.  Thanks to the Skillmans who visited Rob twice in the hospital!  We are very grateful for our friends and family who have done so much for us.
